Tyler Myrick, the owner of Youngs Menswear, understands the importance of a well-fitted suit, but even more so understands the importance of making your mark in your local community.
Tyler had worked in the wedding industry for quite some time before gaining ownership of Youngs Menswear, and the yearning for working with people in person again after the pandemic urged him to work at the local suit and tuxedo rental shop in Escanaba, MI.
Youngs Menswear, formerly known as Young’s Formalwear, began its journey in the 1990s in Escanaba. Previously owned by Jena and Ron Young, the retail store made waves in the Upper Peninsula as the only location for men's formal wear. Tyler started working with Jena & Ron in 2022, and after their retirement, he received the honor to continue their 30+ year legacy business.
Throughout his journey with entrepreneurship, Tyler’s biggest piece of advice to other business owners would be to “Ask questions, look for resources, and get a mentor.” One of the local resources that Tyler found was Accelerate UP. Through the free services of AUP, he was able to learn and develop the confidence to run his business. Tyler said, “The grant was super helpful, as well as the advisory team to answer all types of questions from marketing, hiring, and legal services was very valuable.” Through Accelerate UP, Tyler was also able to make connections with the local business community by joining chamber and community partnership programs.
Youngs Menswear has been open at its Marquette location since March of this year, and held a ribbon-cutting in July to officially make its mark in the community. Accelerate UP is proud to see the expansion of Youngs Menswear in Marquette. It’s the place to go for all your menswear needs!
